Long Term Care Coverage: An alternative to the Washington State Long Term Services & Supports Act

LTC Insurance Enrollment with Trustmark is now closed.
Brief Background on Washington’s LTSSA: In 2019 the Washington State Legislature passed a mandatory payroll tax to take effect on January 1, 2022. The tax will be collected on every W-2 Wage Earner. The tax is currently set at .58cents per every $100.00 of gross wages. In 2021, WACOPS along with other first responder advocates and some employers, was able to get an amendment to the law that allows for current workers in WA to opt out of the tax if they have in place by November 1, 2021, an alternative insurance plan that meets the State’s mandated coverage level.

If you purchased a private LTC plan through WACOPS subsidiary PSEII during the open enrollment period, the exemption link is now live on the WA Cares Fund website. Trustmark enrollment applications are still being processed and you may not have received email notification from Trustmark yet, but please be on the lookout for a communication from them soon.

To submit your LTC exemption application to WA State please follow the instructions listed in detail on the WA Cares Fund website. Each person who purchased a policy needs to individually submit an exemption to the state, this means if you had a spouse or partner also select a policy they need to complete their exemption application separately. See WA Cares Fund Website for complete instructions.

Timeline to apply for an exemption: October 1, 2021- December 31, 2022

If you purchased a Trustmark LTC policy, access your documents by registering for a Trustmark account here:  https://myvb.trustmarkbenefits.com/login . This may only work for those individuals who have received a confirmation email from Trustmark, if you have not, your application may still be being processed.
