The Washington Council of Police and Sheriffs (WACOPS) is now accepting nominations for the 2018 Law Enforcement Officer of the Year (LEOY) Award. Nominations due by November 30, 2018.

The purpose of this award is to provide recognition of clearly exceptional and outstanding performance of duties which bring honor and distinction to the Officer, their Department, and/or the profession. 


Nominees MUST have exhibited at least one (1) of the following characteristics above and beyond the normal scope of the profession: 


  • MUST be a current WACOPS member in good standing. (Executive Board not eligible)
  • LEOY Nomination Form MUST be completed along with supporting documentation of Nominees achievements
  • All nominations will be reviewed, and the winner selected by the WACOPS Executive Board


All Nominees are invited and encouraged to attend the 2019 Winter Membership meeting, January 25th at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Olympia, and will receive acknowledgement and a certificate of nomination.

The Award Winner will receive overnight accommodations paid for by WACOPS, presented a medallion and a framed certificate detailing their achievements that led to the award.

The Winner's Chief/Sheriff will be invited to participate in the presentation.

Local media will be notified of the Award winner.
